Patient Education Foundation
This program is built upon more than 25 years of multilingual patient-education work created by Dr. Paul Han, and he program is further strengthened by Dr. Giurini’s national leadership,
including his contributions as an expert committee member and contributing author to the ADA Standards of Care for diabetic foot management.
Together, their work forms the educational basis of the Han–Giurini Model for Diabetic Limb Preservation, used across safety-net hospitals, FQHCs, and community clinics.
About the Educational Materials
- Patient-education materials and symptom-based guidance were developed by Dr. Han and used in clinical practice since 1996
- Designed to help people with diabetes identify symptoms early and understand what they mean
- Used across community health centers, diabetes programs, and underserved populations
- Available in Eleven languages to support culturally diverse patients
The educational program is further strengthened by Dr. Giurini’s national leadership, including his role as a coauthor of the ADA’s foot-care guidelines.
